Time to Register Your 4-Year Old for PreKindergarten

Filed under: Preschool — Sue Dirosario @ 10:54 am

Parents take note:  In a few short weeks schools will re-open and Broadreach Family & Community Services is reminding parents to register their four-years olds for PreKindergarten (PreK) as soon as possible to avoid the rush.  Children who are four or will be by October 15th are eligible to register for this free program.

Sponsored by RSU 20 and RSU 3 in this region, PreK is staffed by Broadreach.  Many of the classrooms are a collaboration involving the school district, Head Strart and Broadreach. PreK prepares children for a successful transition to kindergarten with the guidance of highly experienced, certified educators.  The classroom routine encourages children’s self-discipline, self-esteem and creativity.

Executive Director Kate Quinn Finlay shares, “PreKindergarten offers a wonderful opportunity for four-year olds to gain readiness for Kindergarten and the elementary school experience.  There are a wide variety of daily activities that help children gain skills for learning in a nurturing setting.  PreK honors each child’s individual needs, interests and strengths.  Our teachers work closely with parents to help ensure a positive experience for both the child and their family.  If a child has a need for additional services, our case managers can help support the child, parents, and teachers in making those connections and streamlining that process.”

With the weeks of summer quickly passing, Broadreach encourages all parents of four-year olds to register their child for PreKindergarten  as soon as possible by calling 338-2200 extension 107 for more information and registration.  Broadreach Family & Community Services is a not-for-profit organization serving families and individuals of all ages throughout Waldo and Knox counties.
