Career Opportunity- After School Youth Mentor

Youthlinks, a nonprofit youth development program of Broadreach Family & Community Services in Rockland, has been molding young lives in Knox County for 35 years. Employing caring and positive adult role models, Youthlinks engages elementary, middle and high school students in developing new skills, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging through community service, outdoor excursions, career exploration, homework support, and center-based activities, including our highly popular Grassroots Garden. Our mission is to improve student engagement in academic, family, and community life and to support young people’s successful journey from adolescence to adulthood.


We seek part-time Youth Mentors to support youth development and engagement activities under the direction of the Youthlinks Program Coordinator. This 20-hour-per week position requires 1:30-5:30pm weekdays during the school year, with occasional weekend hours required. Summer time 20 hours a week, times TBD.


The Job:

  • Assure safety of assigned youth at all times and ensure participation in the daily routine.
  • Participate in specialized training relevant to delivery of the Youthlinks program curriculum.
  • Transport youth participants to community events and from sending schools.
  • Responsible for a weekend shift at the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen once every other month to lead program participants and volunteers in the preparation and serving of meals.
  • Support youth in joining program activities and adapting these activities as needed under the supervision of the program coordinator.
  • Keep daily notes and writes quarterly progress reports on youth engagement, needs and growth.
  • Create an environment that promotes acquisition of new skills in all areas of youth development.
  • Provide families with information and resource support as requested.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of experience working with youth ages 10 to 18.
  • Valid Driver’s license, clean driving record and proof of insurance.
  • Knowledge of Knox County helpful.
  • Passion for working with adolescents.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all constituencies, including youth, employees, community members, parents, and school representatives.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including oral, in writing, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Experience and interest in vegetable and flower cultivation a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Behavioral Health Professional Certification (or eligibility) desired but not required.
  • Clean Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).

Pay is $14 to $16 per hour depending on experience. To apply, please send resume and cover letter.
